The EMIMEO project is implementing by a common management structure coordinated by Prof. Denis Barataud and Prof. Alessandro Tonello. Frédéric Fabre, EU project manager at the University of Limoges responsible for the implementation of the project’s activities.
At each of the partner Universities, there is also an academic local coordinator, who is responsible for the management of the program at the local level. They have to deal with the interface between their Higher Education Institution and the rest of the consortium.
Denis Barataud received the engineer’s degree from ENST Brest, France (1994), and the Ph.D. in Electronics from the University of Limoges (1998). 1998-1999 he was a Postdoctoral Scientist of CNES, Toulouse. In 2000, he joined the XLIM Lab. as Assistant Professor (2001), and later as Full Professor (2012-). He was co-coordinator of the Tempus EOLES project (2012-2015). His research interests include time-domain techniques for the characterisation of non-linear devices and power amplifier design. Member of IEEE, he was the Tech. Programme Chair of the EuMC in 2015. 2016- 2018: he’s the French representative of the EuMA General Assembly and the general chair of EuMW 2019. He co-authored over 130 scientific papers, 32 of them in international journals.
Alessandro Tonello graduated (cum laude) at the University of Padova, Italy in 1996 and received in 2001 the PhD in Electronic engineering and telecommunications from the same University. During his Phd he was visiting student at Alcatel Undersea Transmission group (France) and at Aston University (UK). He was consultant for Pirelli Labs, and Post-doc at the university of Trento (Italy), Padova (Italy), and at the University of Bourgogne Dijon (France). Since 2006 he is Maître de Conférences at the University of Limoges. He is co-author of more than 150 peer reviewed international journal papers and conferences, four book chapters and six patents in the field of nonlinear optics in fibers and crystals. He was visiting professor at the University of Brescia (Italy) from 2017 to 2019. He recently served as subcommittee member for the conferences CLEO Europe 2015, 2017 and as subcommittee chair for CLEO Europe 2019. Since 2018 he is also associate editor of the journal “Optical Fiber Technology”, published by Elsevier.
Frederic Fabre is Project Manager at the University of Limoges. He is responsible for the implementation of the Erasmus Joint Master Degree on Innovative Microwave Electronics and Optics: In the past, He has been Project Manager for the European Projects Association based in Brussels. He was managing the recent Erasmus projects such as: “ETHICBOARD”, “E-CUL-TOURS”, “European Horizons of 1919, its significance and lessons learned” and “Talented Europe”. Former Training Coordinator at European Academy for Education and Social Research, experienced in developing training courses aiming to improve the knowledge of European funds and develop skills in writing and managing European projects through the learning by doing methodology. Expert in administration, economics and social sciences he specialised Local administration law, economics and management of public bodies. Local Councillor in the Council of Chalvignac since 2008, Local/Urban board member and Local Finance board member. He worked as Delegate member in the PESTRE -Administrative and Tourism organization gathering three Councils (Chalvignac, Mauriac et Tourniac) – and as Local Councillor delegate to National Defence.
Juan-Mari Collantes received the Ph.D. degree in electronics from the University of Limoges, France, in 1996. Since February 1996, he has been an Associate Professor with the Electricity and Electronics Department, University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), Bilbao, Spain. In 1996 and 1998 he was an Invited Researcher with Agilent Technologies (formerly the Hewlett-Packard Company), Santa Rosa, CA. In 2003, he was with the French Space Agency (CNES), Toulouse, France, where he was involved with power amplifier analysis, simulation, and modeling. Co-author of more than 80 papers in international refereed journals and conferences, he is a member of Technical Program and Steering Committees of several international conferences. His areas of interest include nonlinear analysis and design of microwave circuits, microwave measurement techniques, and noise characterization.
Constantino De Angelis received the Laurea degree (cum laude) and the Ph.D. in Electronic Engineering from the University of Padova, in 1989 and 1993. 1993-1994, lecturer at University of New Mexico. 1994-1998, Assistant Professor at the University of Padova. He is head of the Photonics Group at the University of Brescia (1998-) and full Professor of Electromagnetic Fields (2004-). He has more than 150 publications in peer-reviewed journals and 150 conference presentations, some of them invited. He was PI in 7 European Projects (ESPRIT, FET, ERASMUS MUNDUS and EOARD) and 7 national projects (PRIN, FIRB and CARIPLO). He is the coordinator (2012-) of the research activities of the Department of Information Engineering in Brescia. He is a Fellow of the OSA.
Giancarlo Soavi received his M.Sc. (2011) and PhD. (2015) from the Politecnico di Milano. From 2015 to 2018, he worked as a Research Associate at the Cambridge Graphene Centre (University of Cambridge, UK) and Teaching Fellow of the Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) on Photonics and Optoelectronics based on graphene and related materials at the University of Cambridge. Since 2019, he has led a research group with a focus on the study of the ultrafast and nonlinear optical properties of two-dimensional materials and other quantum materials. He has more than 45 publications in international peer-reviewed journals, and he was invited as a speaker to more than 35 conferences, seminars, and lectures. He has been elected fellow of the Darwin College (Cambridge, 2017) and of the Daimler and Benz Foundation (Germany, 2021). He was/is PI in 3 European projects (Graphene Flagship Core2 and Core3, FET) and 6 national projects (DFG, TAB, DAAD, BMBF).
Christian Helgert received his Diploma Degree in Physics and his PhD (summa cum laude) from the Friedrich Schiller University of Jena in 2006 and 2011, respectively. His doctoral research was concerned with symmetry-related effects of nanostructured metamaterials and their optical properties. After his PhD, he served as a junior group leader for Organic Nanomaterials at the Institute of Applied Physics at the Friedrich Schiller University. In 2012, he worked as a postdoctoral Fellow at the Nonlinear Physics Centre of the Australian National University in Canberra on nonlinear and quasicrystal optical metamaterials. During his scientific career, he specialized on electron beam-based nanostructure technology and became co-author of 2 patents, 2 book chapters, 25 invited talks and more than 40 peer-reviewed international publications with more than 1.000 citations.
In 2013, Christian accepted the offer of the Friedrich Schiller University Jena to become Chief Executive Officer of the Abbe Center and Abbe School of Photonics. In this role, he is now responsible for all scientific management activities of the academic photonics and quantum technology hub in Jena, including particularly the funding acquisition and the strategic development of international projects and partnerships concerning research, education, innovation and transfer. Experienced by former duties in multiple national and European consortia, he is also an expert in the design and implementation of academic education programs and talent recruiting.
